"Elimination of excessive sweating by botulinum toxin application"
I'm a pretty emotional person and stress and joyful moments are suddenly accompanied by increased sweating. And although I'm not particularly bothered by deodorant in my purse, the idea of having a dry t-shirt for months at all times was naturally tempting. I found it literally relieving.
"The only thing that put me off the treatment was the fear of pain."
The needle application, after all... Not much of an idea. But at the MEDICOM Clinic, they reassured me beforehand that I didn't have to worry about pain. Before the treatment, they can apply a numbing cream with an anaesthetic to your armpits, which makes the injections almost unnoticeable. If this is an option, why suffer unnecessarily? I preferred to arrive at the clinic more than half an hour earlier so that the anaesthetic could work in my armpits.
"After about half an hour, when the anaesthetic had worked in my armpit, the doctor called me into her office and started the actual needle application."
Again, of course, I made sure I really wouldn't feel the injections and admitted that I was no great heroine when it came to pain. But the doctor assured me that thanks to the anesthetic, I would only feel every third injection, and really only minimally. And it was exactly as she said. I didn't know about the first two needles at all, and the third one just felt like such a tolerable peck. I wouldn't even call it pain.
"The whole treatment only took about ten minutes, then it was done."
I was also pleasantly surprised that there were no extra restrictions after the treatment. For the first 2-3 days, I was just advised to avoid the sauna, tanning beds and activities that would make me sweat significantly. The effect of the treatment was then supposed to come after about 3-7 days. However, I felt that I was sweating incomparably less in my armpits the very next day.
"I know that the treatment will only relieve me of the annoying sweating for a limited time"
The botulinum toxin in the area will suspend the sweat glands, but it was still worth it. I should enjoy dry t-shirts for 4-12 months. I hear it's pretty individual, so we'll see. I'd be happy to do it again later.

Because we have about two to five million sweat glands on our body, the application of botulinum toxin to a specific site does not compromise our body's thermoregulation in any way and poses no danger to the body. Moreover, the production of sweat glands can be suppressed not only in the armpits but also in other areas - for example, on the forehead, palms, décolletage, soles of the feet and other places as required. The procedure is performed only on an outpatient basis and there should be no significant sweat gland activity in any area of the body other than where the botulinum toxin is applied during the procedure. So, at least, I do not commonly encounter such responses in practice.
