More about the procedure

The size of a woman's areola is usually genetically determined. However, it is also influenced by various hormonal changes that occur throughout life. Changes in the size of the areolae therefore occur , for example, during breastfeeding. Plastic surgery can be used to achieve a natural and harmonious breast appearance. Areola reshaping can be performed alone or as part of breast modelling or augmentation with implants or fat.

  • The procedure harmonizes the overall appearance of the breasts
  • Areola modelling can be combined with other breast surgeries
  • Procedure under local or general anaesthesia
  • Surgery takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours

With which procedures can areola reduction be combined?

Areola reduction surgery can be effectively combined with various procedures that improve the size and shape of the breasts, such as breast augmentation with implants for a fuller appearance, breast modelling for firming and lifting, or breast reduction to reduce volume. These procedures can be performed simultaneously, which improves the aesthetics of the breasts.

Who is the procedure suitable for?

Breast reduction is ideal for women who experience discomfort or dissatisfaction with the size of their breast areolae. The procedure also addresses congenital and post-operative asymmetries. Breast areola reduction can contribute significantly to improved breast aesthetics and increased self-confidence. The procedure can be performed alone or as part of a breast augmentation or reduction surgery.

For whom is the procedure not suitable?

On the other hand, areola modelling is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also not recommended for clients with serious medical conditions, as anaesthesia and surgery can increase the risk. Areola reduction cannot be performed on women suffering from acute inflammatory conditions in the area. It is important that the client is in good physical and mental condition prior to the procedure and undergoes a consultation with a plastic surgeon to assess her health and realistic expectations.

The course of the procedure

Consultation

At the initial consultation with the surgeon , you will evaluate your idea of the result. The surgeon will explain the entire course of the surgery and recommend the most appropriate technique. He or she will also discuss any risks and recovery with you.
There are few risks involved in breast areola modelling. Common complications include swelling, bruising and minor bleeding at the site of the procedure. Breast areola reduction alone does not risk the loss of the possibility of future breastfeeding. The appropriate surgical technique will be recommended by your chosen plastic surgeon.

Preparation for the procedure

If you decide to have surgery, you can arrange a convenient date with your surgeon. For surgery under local anaesthesia, basic blood tests are sufficient, whereas under general anaesthesia, a full pre-operative examination is required.

Procedure

The surgeon will make an incision around the circumference of the areola and remove the excess skin. He then adjusts the shape and size of the areola to achieve a symmetrical and aesthetic appearance. The procedure takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and ends with careful suturing of the wound to minimize the visibility of scars. After the procedure, the areola is still taped over with a sterile patch and covered with gauze - both of which will be removed from your breasts approximately 2 weeks after the procedure. You can then wash the operated area at home for the first time.
We use special absorbable sutures to close the wound. They will dissolve on their own within a few weeks. There is therefore no need to remove them.

Recovery

You can usually return to light office work within a few days of surgery, depending on the individual healing process. However, it is advisable to wait a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks, at the discretion of the surgeon, before engaging in physical activity and sports to ensure proper tissue healing and minimize the risk of complications.

You often wonder

The extent of removal of excess skin from the areola is determined by the doctor. It depends on the size and shape of the client's breasts, but we always strive for the most natural result.

Simply reducing the size of the areola will not deprive you of the possibility of breastfeeding. You do not even have to worry if the reduction of the areolae is done as part of a breast augmentation with implants. It is always a matter of doctor-client agreement and the choice of surgical technique.
