Lower eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a popular procedure aimed at rejuvenating the eye area. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the entire body, so this is where signs of aging, stress, or an unhealthy lifestyle can easily show. The procedure effectively addresses bags under the eyes and wrinkles around the lower eyelids. In addition, it brings health benefits such as relief from tearing, puffiness, frequent eye fatigue and headaches. Due to its many benefits, lower eyelid blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures.
-
Pain relief
Eye fatigue and possible headaches disappear
-
Younger appearance
The area around the eyes is rejuvenated and with it the whole face
-
Scars are not visible
They are hidden under the eyelash line or on the conjunctiva
-
Combination of procedures is possible
Lower eyelid surgery and other procedures on the face or body can be performed at the same time
More about the procedure
- Lower eyelid surgery takes around 45 minutes under local anaesthetic
- Blepharoplasty can be performed on the lower and upper eyelids simultaneously
- Stitches are pulled out after 5 to 7 days
- You can return to normal activities after about 8 to 10 days
- The final result of the procedure can be seen after 3 months
For whom the procedure is suitable
Lower eyelid surgery is most commonly performed on women and men in their 40s who are concerned about the tired appearance of their eye area. However, younger clients with genetic predispositions to under-eye circles, wrinkles or fat bags are no exception. The advantage is the permanent result and the relief of eye fatigue.
Complications
Complications with eyelid plastic surgery are rare. Ectropion (tearing and the sensation of a foreign body in the eye) may occur, which usually disappears as the swelling subsides. Rarely, wounds may open up after the sutures are removed, often due to failure to follow the doctor's instructions. To prevent complications, it is important to keep the operated area at rest.

You often wonder
With the use of general anaesthesia, eyelid surgery can be performed, for example, together with a facelift, i.e. facial plastic surgery. The excellent result of the procedure and the effect of facial rejuvenation can then be enhanced by the subsequent application of botulinum toxin. This serves, among other things, as a solution to mimic wrinkles in the outer corners of the eyes. However, the procedure must always be approved by a doctor.
In the case of the lower eyelids, a very popular and effective method of laser surgery is the so-called lower transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The operation is performed with a laser beam under a short anaesthesia (about 30 minutes), without skin incision and without sutures. Thus, no scar is left on the eyelid after the procedure, which is an advantage over the conventional method.
Yes, and clearly in a positive sense. After plastic eyelid surgery, you will no longer suffer from frequent watery eyes, you will not struggle so much with eye fatigue and often even headaches will subside.
You can use skin cosmetics and make-up again in the operated area about 2 weeks after the procedure.
No, just expect reduced comfort, swelling and bruising. Applying cooling gels, eye drops or ointment, plus medications for swelling and bruising will make the process more pleasant. We do not recommend any major physical exertion for the first week after surgery.
After plastic eyelid surgery performed using the conventional method (with a scalpel), you can go home immediately after the procedure and observe a resting regime for about a week. If we choose a combination of conventional plastic surgery and laser method, you will stay in the clinic for 1 day.
Yes, we perform a combination of upper eyelid surgery using the classic method and lower eyelid surgery using the CO2 laser quite often. However, the plastic surgeon will consult with you in advance and recommend the most suitable treatment method.
The shape of the eyelids changes as the skin gradually loses its elasticity. However, the fat sacs that press on the circular eye muscle also have a major influence. This causes an unpleasant bulging of the lower eyelids, the so-called bags under the eyes.
We usually allow normal physical exercise after about a week. However, it is recommended to start sports activities at least one month after surgery.
You will return to our clinic 5 to 8 days after surgery. We'll check to make sure everything is okay and remove the stitches.
